Attendance & Book Participation
- Consistent attendance is an expectation of active membership. - Attendance and book participation are recorded separately after each meeting. - A meeting counts as one strike only when you both missed it and did not read its book. - Attending OR Reading means no strike. - The first strike brings a friendly private reminder, the second a final reminder, and the third makes membership inactive to open a spot for another reader. - Strikes stay until the owner resets them or approves reinstatement. - Quiet listening and discussion activity do not create strikes. - Contact Admin about corrections. - Inactive members can still read their own records and messages and request reinstatement.
Respect & Participation
- Respect everyone’s opinions, boundaries, voices, and reading preferences. - Disagree with the books - not each other. - No harassment, bullying, hate speech, drama or toxic behavior. - Repeated behavior that negatively affects the group may result in removal.
Reading Expectations
- Members are encouraged to read each monthly selection. - You do NOT have to finish every book to attend. - Members who haven’t finished are welcome to participate. - Discussions may contain spoilers - Members are encouraged to participate in discussions and share their thoughts and opinions.
Communication
Use discussions for shared conversation and the private suggestion box for concerns. Keep member contact details and private submissions within their intended audience.
RSVP expectations
- Please respond before the meeting deadline and update your RSVP when plans change. Check the invitation for location, timing, and special instructions. - We understand emergencies happen, but please communicate with BookClub Admin if there are any changes less than 24 hours before a meeting.
Membership Status
Private club spaces are for approved, active members. The club owner manages membership and any expiration dates.
Leaving and Rejoining
Let the owner know if you would like to leave or take a break. You can ask to rejoin; access is restored after approval.
Meetings
- We meet at least once a month, with 1 book selected each month. - Books will be selected through a group vote. - Meeting locations and times may change depending on host. - Members are welcome to volunteer to host.
Book selection and voting
- Bring your suggestions to the bookshelf. - Each member has one editable ballot per poll.
Most Importantly
We’re here to read, laugh, debate, fangirl, rant about fictional men, and make friendships. We don’t expect everyone to read at the same pace or attend every single meeting - but we do expect everyone to respect the time, effort and commitment that goes into making this group happen.
